Sterling Heights, Mich. – 215 bowlers and 24 college bowling programs will come together for the ultimate day of collegiate recruiting at the 2017 RecruitUS Collegiate Bowling Showcase presented by High 5 Gear, Bowler Connections, & ViQing Gear on Sunday, April 9th at Sterling Lanes in Sterling Heights, Mich.
In its inaugural year of operation, the 215 bowling recruits brought in by RecruitUS LLC makes this the largest collegiate bowling recruiting event in the world. They will be joined by 31 coaches representing 24 programs from 11 different states and Ontario, a Canadian Province. Colleges present will be coming from the states of Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Kansas, Illinois, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and Alabama.
“100 and 15 was my expectation for our inaugural year,” said RecruitUS President Kenneth DeGraaf. “215 and 24 is just mind blowing. It shows that people are really buying into our belief that the collegiate recruiting process should be as affordable and efficient as possible. I look forward to witnessing a great inaugural event and growing into the future.” The event will kick off with an open house meet-and-greet, where players can learn about the programs before the bowling event takes place, allowing for the future college students to learn more about each school from an athletic and academic standpoint.
Following the open house will be a brief welcoming session, where guidelines for the day will be ran over by DeGraaf and guest speaker DJ Rose, a representative of ViQing Gear and former collegiate bowler at Concordia University, will offer his insights and advice to the college bowlers of tomorrow.
The audition tournament will consist of four games on four different pairs as bowlers will compete on the challenging 39-foot 2011 Bowlers Journal Championship Pattern. Guys will be assigned to lanes 1-30 and girls will be assigned to lanes 31-50 of the two-sided house, ensuring realistic breakdown to what they will see on the collegiate circuit.
Following the audition tournament, the top five guys and girls will be named to the inaugural RecruitUS All-Tournament team. The top freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior guy and girl will also be honored. The event will conclude with final recruitment meetings, similar to the open house environment where bowlers and coaches can discuss their plans with one another moving forward.
“It’s going to be a great day and this lane pattern is really going to challenge them,” said DeGraaf. “This event is all about preparing them for the next level and getting them the exposure they need at an affordable rate. Hopefully, through this event, we see can help send athletes to college to compete in a sport they love at one of the highest levels of competition.”
